A pleasant flight with Air China in business class. The service and catering were good though definitely not as polished. The FAs were all friendly and eager to help. The food was surprisingly good. The steak and lobster were flavorful and actually juicy not dry. The pre-arrival meal of beef noodles and seafood salad was also tasty and generously portioned. However there are parts of the service that were unusual such as the rich sweet chocolate ice cream as a "palate cleanser" before the start of the meal service. The bar was also barely stocked during the flight. Overall, similar to my prior experience, the flight was good but it was clear that the product is not as polished as it could be.

Our plane was scheduled to leave at around 5:50pm but was later delayed to around 7:00pm and got in around 9:00pm, about an hour late. However delay or not, the hours are very good! The plane leaves in the evening meaning you will get served a quick dinner and have time for some sleep early on in the flight. My recommendation for a flight with these hours is get a quick 2-4 hour nap in the first 2-5 hours of the flight because you will be arriving at night. What worked for me was to be tired upon my arrival so I could easily crash once at the hotel and take a nice long snooze in the hotel making me overcome jet lag pretty quickly. Another advantage of the evening arrival was the very short immigration lines at the Beijing Airport. The airport is almost completely empty at 8-9pm making my t...

The lounge is rather dated and lacks amenities. The food however, was very flavorful and good. Once on the plane, there are two set meals and a few made to order meals, meaning if you get the munchies mid flight, you can order another meal. The meal service took a little longer than I had expected, and by the time the main course came out, it was really about two hours after takeoff. The first meal was super! The Ahi seared tuna was the highlight but the rest of the meal was quite good too. The last meal was served an hour before landing, and I got the chicken and potatoes. Filmed on Nikon D5500 with Sigma 17-50 f2.8mm lens. Despite the many negative reviews of Air China, I found myself on a comfortable flight with a very attentive and friendly crew. The crew were all smiles. They refilled/offered drinks constantly and addressed each passenger by name. One of the crew saw me taking videos and so she showed me around the business class cabin. We chatted about her own experiences of being a flight attendant at Air China. Perhaps the biggest lesson I learned was that apparently management does not fit in enough beds for the crew in order to save weight, therefore many FAs find themselves needing a first class or business bed to get enough rest to deal with the constantly changing time zones. This also happened at China Eastern where she worked at for four 4 years before changing airlines. This explains previous flight reports on the internet of passengers complaining about sleeping FAs in the premium cabins. Honestly I felt very bad for them and it really is true not to judge a book by its cover since the situation is outside of their control. The FA also told me that they are definitely aware that they are not as good as Singapore or ANA but Air China is trying to improve its experience. During the dessert service, she actually let me take all 3 different desserts (cake, tiramisu, and fruits) when I couldn't make up my mind. The bed was completely 180 degrees lie flat. I was able to get about 7 good hours of sleep. I have heard about Air China keeping the cabin too warm, but it was actually perfect on this flight. The duvet was large, soft and very comfortable. My experience was definitely helped by the fact that I had a complete row of business class seat available to me. Seat 11A is actually the most private seat because of the way the row of seats are all angled slightly to the right. Therefore 11A is the most forward of all the seats in the nose of the 747-8. Nevertheless, catering still needs substantial improvement. My first meal was fairly tasty. The chicken was spicy and fragrant but the presentation didn't look too great. My pre-arrival "chicken" noodle soup was absolutely tasteless even though it looked not that bad. If they can change their business class seats to 1x2x1 rather than 2x2x2 and substantially improve their meals, I would definitely look forward to flying them again.

Hainan Airlines Company Limited (HNA) is an airline headquartered in Haikou, People's Republic of China. It is the largest privately-owned air transport company and the fourth-largest airline in terms of fleet size in the People's Republic of China. It operates scheduled domestic and international services on 500 routes from Hainan and nine locations on the mainland, as well as charter services. Its main base is Haikou Meilan International Airport, with a hub at Beijing Capital International Airport and several focus cities. Hainan Airlines is one of the seven Asian airlines rated as five-star by Skytrax, along with All Nippon Airways, Asiana Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Garuda Indonesia, Qatar Airways, and Singapore Airlines. On 29 September 2005, HNA Group ordered 42 Boeing 787-8s, 10 of which were earmarked for the Hainan Airlines fleet. In January 2006, China Aviation Supplies Import and Export Group Corporation ordered 10 Boeing 737–800s for Hainan Airlines. In September 2006, Hainan Airlines ordered another 15 Boeing 737-800s. On 4 December 2007, Hainan Airlines acquired three Airbus A340-600s on lease from International Lease Finance Corporation. On 14 November 2007, Hainan Airlines received its first Airbus A330-200. In June 2007, Hainan Airlines ordered 13 Airbus A320-200 aircraft. In late 2007, Hainan Airlines ordered 50 Embraer ERJ-145s and 50 Embraer 190s, with a total value (at list price) of $2.7 billion USD. The 50-seat ERJ-145s were produced by the Harbin Embraer Aircraft Industry (HEAI) joint venture, located in Harbin. E-190 deliveries began in December 2007. Due to the global financial crisis and huge losses incurred in 2008, the ERJ-145 order was reduced to 25. The E-190 order remained unchanged. On 25 March 2015, HNA Group announced its intention to acquire 30 Boeing 787-9s, which are all to join the Hainan Airlines Fleet. The delivery of the aircraft is scheduled to be completed by 2021. Two leased Boeing 787-9 aircraft are due for delivery in Spring 2016. The 767-300ER, the extended-range version of the 767-300, entered service with American Airlines in 1988. The type's increased range is made possible by greater fuel tankage and a higher MTOW of 407,000 pounds (185,000 kg). Design improvements allowed the available MTOW to increase to 412,000 pounds (187,000 kg) by 1993. Power is provided by Pratt & Whitney PW4000, General Electric CF6, or Rolls-Royce RB211 engines. Typical routes for the type include Los Angeles to Frankfurt. The combination of increased capacity and range offered by the 767-300ER has been particularly attractive to both new and existing 767 operators, allowing it to become the most successful version of the aircraft. Airlines have placed more orders for the type than all other variants combined. As of March 2015, 767-300ER deliveries stand at 583 with no unfilled orders. Airlines had 495 examples in service as of July 2014. The type's main competitor is the Airbus A330-200.

This flight had probably the most beautiful takeoff I have experienced thus far. We took off during a worsening blizzard. Once we broke through the clouds and climbed towards a setting sun, it really felt as though I was briefly on another world. For a long time I been waiting for the opportunity to experience the Hainan long haul business class. I have flown with Hainan in economy and domestic China business class, and had several flights where I found their FAs to be of 5 star level (Cathay and Singapore as my comparison). I have seen Hainan FAs treat passengers as though they were their own families, especially catering to the needs of elderly/disabled travelers or traveling mothers. It was certainly very impressive, and the benchmark I used to compare this flight to. In terms of soft service, Hainan offers a surprisingly excellent amenity kit, comfortable pajamas, mattress pad and cover, and Bose headphones in business. On this flight, the crew were attentive and kind, especially the FA working the other aisle. Usually FAs offer to hang up jackets, but the FA in my aisle seemed to only offer it to 2/3 passengers while the other FA seemed to went down her aisle. Maybe it was a space issue. For me it wasn’t a big deal since my stuff won’t get wrinkled in the overhead space. Throughout the flight though I often had to ask for refills or else the glass would sit empty. There were a few times I was offered more wine or champagne and this was mostly done by the purser or FA in the other aisle. Otherwise they were very quick at taking away used plates and serving the next course. The FA in the K aisle does seem to be more experienced and her choice of wording reflect this. During my interactions with her she would often ask "Do you want more?" rather than "Are you done? Do you still need it." I think the menu on this flight is quite extensive, and there were no big English errors that I spotted. Hainan has focused a lot on hiring international crew members, and there was a Western crew member on this flight. I think this effort has paid off with nice menus that don’t contain embarrassing and blatant English errors. As usual with mainland airlines, I find that the wine menu is a particular weak spot. On this flight there is a champagne but I could not find any details about online. Hainan’s excellent and classy Bulgari amenity kit is one of my favorite business class kits now. Cathay’s kits are nowhere near the quality and quality provided by Hainan’s kit. The bag reminds me of the excellent Asiana first class kit in its form and design. Hainan’s amenity kit is made of very durable cloth and feels durable and heavy in your hands. The seat is the only disappointment. With many airlines removing first class and focused on improving their business class, Hainan somehow decided to go with a 2x2x2 cabin without aisle access. All its regional competitors offer direct aisle access with the exception of Air China, so for them to go from a 1x2x1 cabin on their A330 to this is baffling to me. Honestly good luck trying to get out of the seat with a sleeping neighbor lying flat next to you. Funny enough, the Xiamen crew I met later on are also confused why Hainan would go backwards when it has no first class and all their competitors are switching to direct aisle access. JAL and KE have a 2x2x2 cabin but with aisle access for every seat, so hopefully Hainan will come to their senses and update their cabin on their flagship plane. Overall, I had consistently good to great experiences on Hainan. The menu and food on this flight were good, however wine continue to be a weak spot. The amenity kit and headphones are a win. The biggest issue facing Hainan is really its seat. There is no privacy and almost impossible to exit with the neighboring seat flat. There are many design offering aisle access even in 2x2x2 formation and so to me there is no reason for them to deploy such an antiquated design. With the new Polaris and Delta One seats and service improvements and even Xiamen offering 1-2-1 business class, Hainan soon will have a difficult time competing with these seats and service improvements. All the US carriers need to do is to leverage their branding, lounge facilities, and any notable service changes to put the squeeze on small foreign carriers like Hainan or Xiamen.

Dear Audience, Here would be the last report on my 2016 Christmas Vacation! Hope you guys enjoy it. AC29 is actually my 7th report. My CHRISTMAS route is 1. VANCOUVER → BEIJING ( AIR CANADA ) 2. BEIJING → CHONGQING ( AIR CHINA ) 3. CHONGQING → BEIJING ( AIR CHINA ) 4. BEIJING → SEOUL INCHEON ( AIR CHINA ) 5. SEOUL INCHEON → VANCOUVER ( AIR CANADA ) Yeah, for comparison with AIR CHINA, who flies the same route, exact same departure time, i would say if the price is the same, DEFINITELY GO WITH AIR CANADA!! If few hundred bucks difference, still go with AIR CANADA!! GO with AIR CHINA only if it is extremely cheap!!! Catering service on AIR CANADA is great!! Way beyond my expectation!!

Hi guys and welcome to this Beijing-Hong Kong review aboard Dragonair (soon to be Cathay Dragon) in Business Class. Last december I visited Beijing for a couple of days and used Cathay and Dragonair to get there. The first leg of this trip is already online, check it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYc2Pm6xogM I did not record the HKG-PEK route and the HKG-DUS. This is the first leg of my return trip to Dusseldorf. Dragonair is part of Cathay Pacific and will soon be rebranded Cathay Dragon. I thourougly enjoyed that short domestic business flight, the seat was pretty good and the crew did a fantastic job. I had plenty to eat and it tasted delicious. Would go on Cathay/Dragonair anytime again! They have a great product. In this video for the first time I tried something new, you can see an all new amandeuce intro with timelapse, music, hyperlapse and cut scenes. I did not consider this when I was filming the trip but I tried to make the best out of the footage I had. I will focus on recording special scenes on my next travels to make it look better. Some have already commented about the Casey Neistat style, I've been watching his vlogs since a couple of weeks and I love that guy, he does great videos. If you have any more questions, do not hesitate to ask and drop a comment below! http://www.TravelsWithSheila.com Global Upgrades to Business Class came through without any aggravation and this flight even had empty Business Class rows. How come that doesn't happen when I'm waiting for a last minute upgrade? Duh? Good polar flight, delicious duck (would you believe that) and wonderful crew. Welcome to China!

The airport is almost completely empty at 8-9pm making my transit time from the gate to the curb about 45 minutes factoring in you have to take a train to other terminals. Let's talk about crew! Some of the crew members (specifically the Chinese ones) were very nice, attractive and talkative. Sadly, I can't say the same about the American flight attendants. Most of them were busy bodies always telling me to turn off my cameras even though the American Airlines photography policy says I can record my own personal events (which I was doing). They wouldn't even let me record the landing... So sadly I have to bust out the crew on this one! I can give the crew one thing though. They were very attentive and were never gone for more than 50 minutes at a time. The seats were very nice! Some of the best airplane seats I've ever been on! They completely lie flat 180 degrees! The food for the most part was good, I've had better meals on some flights but I've also had worse meals. On this flight however, some meals were great while others were not the tastiest. The entertainment system was amazing! Very responsive and many music, TV shows and movies to choose from! Now, the 787 itself is an amazing plane! Definitely the best plane I have ever been on thus far! The humidifier works great and you don't feel quite as tired when getting off the aircraft! There also isn't much engine noise. I would definitely recommend flying on the 787 if you get the chance! All in all, it was a great flight and it ended before I knew it! Crew attitude: 5/10 Seats: 10/10 Food: 5/10 In flight entertainment: 9/10 Airplane cleanliness: 10/10 Overall rating: good, 7/10 If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about the flight feel free to leave a comment down below and I'll try my best to respond! Filmed on a Nikon D5500 and a Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 lens at 1080p60. I have to thank Asiana for arranging a ground crew to pick me up from my delayed flight to Incheon and escort me to my next flight. I was scheduled to fly to Beijing at 5:30 and I deplaned my arriving flight at 5:15. It was a mad dash to my final connecting flight so I was not able to check out the Asiana business class lounge, but the Asiana ground staff made sure I was able to board my flight. Not much to show in terms of service on this short 1 hour and 30 minute flight to Beijing International Airport, especially considering take off and landing procedures take about 40 minutes total. The seats are a bit newer compared to my A330 business class experience to Tokyo. I was welcomed quickly onboard with FAs who greeted me by name and provided me with a hot towel and champagne. Again it made me think if the experience I just had on Asiana was just outside the norm. I was provided with a hot meal on this flight but there were no drink or meal menu. The FA simply told me that seafood rice or beef noodles were the two options. I decided to go with the seafood option, which was not bad. It was also nice that Air China had a native Korean speaker on this flight to make announcements. Overall, a quick pleasant flight with Air China.

Air Canada flight 29 leaves Vancouver at 12:20pm. Our flight was on time. Before boarding we went to the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge which is supposedly under a much needed renovation. Though the chicken was a little on the salty side, it was very yummy. My meal was great, but as for the other meals, they looked more plain. The seats are comfortable and fully lie flat and I was able to get a solid sleep. However, the tray table is mounted a little low and may get in the way of your knees when trying to sleep. I found this a little bit of an annoyance. The IFE kept me busy for a bit, but the selection of movies is more limited than some other airlines. Other than the fact that the departure meal was served a little slow, the service was quite good and the flight attendants chatted with me about my YouTube and were quite interested. Airplane cleanliness: 10/10 Crew attitude: 8/10 Service: 8/10 Seats: 8/10 IFE: 7/10 Food: 9/10 Lounge: 5/10 Overall rating: good 7.8/10 Would I recommend flying Air Canada 777-300 business class again: Absolutely! For the full review, please visit my blog: https://travelingfoodyblog.wordpress.com/2016/04/19/trip-report-japan-airlines-business-class-on-the-boeing-787-dreamliner/ Overall, I give this flight a good 8 out of 10. The seats weren’t the best, and the abbreviated meal service was sort of a letdown. Although I do realize that this a short flight, and the efficient crew more than made up for what’s lacking.
